/k/ Sound Spelled K Word List

By Rodney Everson

The /k/ sound has several common spellings, c, k, ck, ch, and cc.

The "c" spelling appears in so many words that no list is provided here. There is a Rule of c regarding English words that states that the letter "c" represents the /s/ sound when followed by an "e", "i", or "y". One result of that rule is that the letter "k" is usually used instead to represent the /k/ sound in front of any of those three letters.

Of the 7,000 words in the database constructed from a popular children’s dictionary, 287 of them are words with the /k/ sound spelled "k".

Note on the word divisions: Each word is divided into chunks determined by the unique and effective OnTrack Reading Multisyllable Method. The chunks are not syllables.
