/g/ Sound Spelled GUE Word List
By Rodney Everson
The /g/ sound has five common spellings, g, gg, gh, gu, and gue.
The "gue" letter combination appears in enough words that it is worth teaching as a digraph. It is always found at the end of a chunk. Teaching it also supports the decision to teach "gu" at the beginning of chunks in words like guide and guard as a digraph for the /g/ sound.
Of the 7,000 words in the database constructed from a popular children’s dictionary, eight of them are words with the /g/ sound spelled "gue".
Note on the word divisions: Each word is divided into chunks determined by the unique and effective OnTrack Reading Multisyllable Method. The chunks are not syllables.
