/s/ Sound Spelled CE Word List
By Rodney Everson
Besides the s spelling, the /s/ sound has six more common spellings, c, ce, ss, sc, st, and se.
The digraph "ce" follows the Rule of c in that it represents the /s/ sound. It is an ending digraph like "me", "se", and "ve" and is not found at the beginning of words or of chunks of longer words.
Of the 7,000 words in the database constructed from a popular children’s dictionary, 87 of them are words with the /s/ sound spelled "ce".
Note on the word divisions: Each word is divided into chunks determined by the unique and effective OnTrack Reading Multisyllable Method. The chunks are not syllables.
